Title – God’s Will
Introduction; The saddest thing that can happen to a life is for someone to miss God’s will. God’s will always involves footsteps of faith. People like to get the whole plan before they take the first step. God calls us to step out and leave the details by faith to Him.
There are so many people that are misfits without Christ. They cannot find meaning and purpose without His leading. God as the master of the Universe knows exactly where we all fit in the Master plan. If you are not saved, do you realize what you are missing? The best possible existence on the planet is with God at the helm of your life. He wants to pilot you to realms of the unknown so you will depend upon Him to lead. When God is at the controls, your life takes on a whole new meaning. This is the key to having the abundant Christian life.
Illustration of pilot: I once read of a story where a pilot fell asleep in the cockpit of a plane while in flight due to carbon monoxide in his compartment. This true account went on to say that the plane flew itself until it ran out of gas. Then it gently descended into a open field and safely landed the pilot without his whereabouts. When he awoke, he realized what had happened. This is how the will of God works. When we take our hands off the wheel God begins to work in ways we never thought possible.
Jesus came to give life more abundant.
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10
The Devil is a hard task master. He drives his people like slaves. And then his goal is one of destruction and devastation. Death is his offering, and then the fiery doom. Jesus gives just the opposite. That is life, peace, joy, and eternity. Then the satisfaction that you are part of a plan that has purpose and meaning. Our life is not just a case of waste.
What is the key to the right kind of life?
1. The key is faith and we must realize that entry into God’s will is available.
Hebrews 4:3, 5-6 says, “For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. … And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief.”
2. The Key is faith and the door is Jesus.
There is a Door of opportunity in Jesus. Once we find the door, we need to use the door. John 3:8
“Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep … I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” John 10:7 & 9
3. We must not leave our Lord outside the door of our lives.
Unfortunately, this is where we find Him in the last episode of church history before the rapture. He said, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
The God who is to have entry is left outside the door of our lives. The question is, why? It is because there are few willing to step out by faith and enter into the door of relationship and fellowship that comes with being considered odd or peculiar. This includes having a devotional life to God, devotion to trust and obey and to pray. To be devoted, We must Study the word, not just for information, but for instruction.
Church is not just a place to assemble to learn new truth but a place to get prepped to advance in one’s faith. It is not just fellowship around good preaching, but getting equipped for kingdom expansion. We need to study the Word of God for a word from our commander and look for the doors that He chooses for us and enter in by faith.
2Timothy 2:15 says, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
4. We need to be instructed in what we are supposed to do in regard to God’s will as a whole.
2Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”
Proverbs 1:2,3, & 7 “To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; … To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity. … The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
5. We must be willing to enter into a disciplined application of the received information.
This is called discipleship. We are all going to be someone’s disciple. We might as well be Jesus’. Discipleship is not just an invitation to know more about God, but an opportunity to discipline your life to join Him in what ever He instructs you to do. We are living in a day with an information overload and no practical application is given. There is an entertainment mentality to ministry without persecution because of practical application. Yet the Bible teaches us what to expect.
Matthew 10:24 “The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.”
Has anybody called you Devil lately?
Matthew 10:25 “It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?”
How about Hate monger?
Luke 14:26 “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.”
6. The requirement for faith-living people is seeing the cross on the other side of the door and picking up the despised symbol.
Luke 14:27,33 “And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. … So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.”
This is the means to real success. Success is finding out where God is going and joining Him. Even if it means suffering if we must go through it.
7. This requires the keys of Faith and obedience and separation from all that would keep you from these things.
At times bearing your cross is a separated lonely path. Separate from the world but do not stop there. Separate to God and join him in life’s journey. Find out His will and do it. Use the doors that He opens before you. Go through them even if it is not comfortable. Then realize your purpose. Do not accept any thing less than this. Do not leave the Lord on the outside and miss God’s best for you. Go ahead, pull out the stops, and enter in. Then, simply do what God shows you and He will help you each step of the way. He knows what he is doing. He knows how to transport you anywhere He wants you. He can do it safely.
Let God pilot your life, and you will be glad you did!
